David Sokoloff

While Dave was in high school his father began to hire a guide about once a year to take him and his brother climbing. They climbed in the Shwangunks, Wyoming, and other climbing areas. Dave loved it and yearned to do more. In 2003, Dave took a NOLS outdoor leadership course that had a climbing portion to it. He hoped that learning how to build anchors and follow on trad climbs would spring board him into the sport. Alas, it wasn’t to be. College, squash, then moving to New York City and working at a busy not-for-profit seemed to distract him from doing the right thing: climbing. It was not until 2006 when he decided to take the 40-minute train ride to the New Rochelle Rock Gym and met Susie and Rens where that he began to climb on a regular basis. For about a year he’d make the commute three times a week to climb. In 2008 Dave reduced his amount of climbing due to an intensive masters program for secondary education in Philadelphia. Dave now has his masters and is a high school social studies teacher at North East High School and hopes to continue this love affair with going up.
